A TEENAGER needed facial surgery after a brutal racist attack in a busy street.

The 15-year-old Asian boy, of Hayes, was set upon by two men in Uxbridge Road, near the junction of Coldharbour Lane, Hayes, while on his way home from school on May 16.

The pair racially abused the victim, who has not been named, then punched him several times in the face and on the head in a sustained assault.

The two laughed as they beat the boy, before fleeing towards McDonald's opposite The Grapes pub.

Hillingdon Police detective superintendent, Stephen Murphy, said: "The attack was unprovoked and has left the victim with serious injuries.

"It happened during daylight hours on a busy main road and there must be people who have driven past or were in the area at the time.

"We are very keen to identify the two suspects and are appealing for witnesses to come forward."

Police retraced the boy's steps on Friday afternoon where he was attacked, and spoke to passersby.

An e-fit of one of the attackers has been released by police.

Detective chief superintendent Carl Bussey, Hillingdon Police commander, said: "The assault on this young man is shocking and one that I take personally very seriously.

"A complaint has been made about the initial response to the call that was received via the 999 system. That matter will be investigated thoroughly.

"At the time of the initial call the indication was that those responsible might have left the scene, and that the severity of the injuries sustained was not immediately apparent or that it may have been racially motivated.

"This is a racially aggravated crime against a young man on his way home from school. My officers are working closely with his family to bring to justice those responsible."

One of the men was about 20, of large build, with acne on his forehead and around his mouth.

He was 5ft 10in tall with short, untidy ginger hair. He wore a black puffer jacket and grey tracksuit bottoms.

The second man was about 18 and of slim build, around 6ft 2in tall and wore a light blue casual top with a 'Mackenzie' label on the front, blue jeans and brown Timberland boots.

* Witnesses should call Hillingdon CID on 020 8246 1537 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
