Grand Union Orchestra set to play at The Beck
A MUSICAL organisation known for its array of different cultural talent is getting set to perform at The Beck Theatre fresh from a ten day tour of Bangladesh.
The Grand Union Orchestra (GU) are bringing one of their most exciting and strongest line-ups on the international jazz circuit today to play at the Hayes theatre next Friday (15).
Bhangra, Babylon and the Blues is flavoured with the exotic sounds of sitar, tabla and steel pan, deployed in subtle compositions by Tony Haynes that lean towards Africa, the Caribbean and India, rather than conventional swing, rock or funk.
The world-jazz orchestra is delighted to present for this occasion sarod virtuoso Shahadat Hossein Khan, visiting from Bangladesh, who will be performing alongside regular world-class musicians Paul Jayasinha, Bryan Wallen, Claude Deppa and Kevin Robinson (trumpets), Chris Biscoe, Tony Kofi and Louise Elliott (reeds), Lucy Rahman (voice), Yousuf Ali Khan (tabla), Brian Abrahams (drums) and Baluji Shrivastav (sitar, dilruba).
The performance will take place at The Beck Theatre, in Grange Road, at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £15 with concessions available.
