Disabled adults enjoy organised sports event

A FOOTBALL training session for teenagers and adults with disabilities has been hailed as a resounding success.

The training session, the first of its kind, was the culmination of two months hard work from different groups in and around the borough.

The training session, held at Sandgate FC in Bourne Avenue, Hayes, was attended by 38 keen footballers aged between 14 and 73.

Queen's Park Rangers, Hillingdon Council, Hays Recruitment Staff, and DASH have all been working in partnership to set up the event.

Rob Burton, a football coach who once manager Hillingdon Borough FC, said: "It was a huge success, the feedback has been great.

"We have had people from across Hillingdon, and from Acton and even Chesham turn up.

"In the future we are now hoping to set up two or three disabled football teams, as there are a lack of opportunities for disabled people in the area."

Anthony Doherty, of Queen's Park Rangers, helped organise seven coaches from the club to come along.

He said: "Its great to be here to offer disabled adults in Hillingdon an opportunity to play football, the event was a great success, and something the QPR Community Trust enjoy being a part of."
