TWO TEENAGERS from Hayes are amongst the twenty protestors due to appear in court following a protest at an Oxford power station.

Aimee Georgiou-Lornand, 18, and Oscar Cooper, 19, both of Hudson Road, Hayes, face charges of aggravated trespassing along with 18 other climate change protestors after gaining access to Didcot Power Station in the early hours of October 26 2009, with the aim of making the facility inoperable.

They came down from the station's chimneys on October 28 and were arrested.

All twenty defendants, comprised of eleven men and nine women, have been released on bail and are due to appear at Oxford Magistrates Court on February 1.

Rape charge boys back in court

TWO ten year-old boys accused of raping a young girl in a park have been committed to Crown Court.

The two boys are alleged to have carried out the sexual attack on the girl in College Way, Hayes, in October.

They were each subsequently charged with two counts of rape on the advice of the Crown Prosecution service in December.

The pair appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates Court on January 28 for committal, and are due to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on February 9 for a plea and direction hearing.

They have been released on conditional bail, and are not allowed to go to certain places unaccompanied by their parents, to speak to witnesses or to contact each other.

PROPOSALS to expand the HESA Primary Care Centre in Hayes have come to light.

Permission has been sought by NHS Hillingdon to change the retail use of the site next to the current centre in Station Road, and floor plans for the vacant 162 square-metre property - previously the old Post Office - include a corridor linking to the existing centre, 5 consultation rooms and a waiting area and reception.

A HAYES man has been handed a 15-month jail term after fraudulently claiming over £17,000 in benefits.

Joao Pedro Lando, 31, of Guiness Close, claimed housing and council tax benefit whilst failing to disclose student support grants and loans he had received. He also collected income support whilst in paid employment.

The total amount of benefits he claimed in a five year period, from 2002 to 2007, totalled £17,942.30.

BLOCKED drains in Harlington have become the latest problem for residents as they tackle the heavy downpours.

These pictures, taken on Harlington High Street, show the extent of the problem on some of the roads in the area and Chris Brady, a resident and street champion for the area, highlighted the High Street, the Manor Parade area and the road beside Harlington Village Green as particular problem areas.

He stressed that, despite reporting the blocked drains to the council, nothing had yet been done to address the problem.

THE HAWKS BMX club has been rescued from the brink of ruin after its burgled bikes were recovered, although police continue to hunt for the thieves.

BMXs belonging to the club were found in a garage on Friday evening (January 22), after police received a tip off and sought a search warrant for a property in Juniper Way, Hayes.

33 of the club's bikes, a generator and protective gear used by the young members that regularly attend the BMX sessions were taken from their facilities container next to the cycle track at Lake Farm Country Park in Dawley Road, Hayes, on January 12.

THE PROSPECT of a new bookmakers in Hayes Town has concerned residents who believe that the Centre already has its fair share.

A gaming licence application has been lodged by Paddy Power for the vacant premises at 39 Station Road which, subject to the application being granted, could be up and running within months.

A YOUNG golfer is teeing up for a national sporting award.

Nine year-old Aadam Syed, a pupil at Cranford Primary School in Phelps Way, Harlington, is in the running for the HSBC Young Sports Personality of the Year at the 2010 British Asian Sports Awards, to be held on February 6.

He regularly participates in tournaments, often competing against older golfers, and he is the youngest member of the Middlesex under-14 team.

THE fate of two large housing proposals for the Uxbridge Road are to be decided on.

An application for 505-509 Uxbridge Road, Hayes, at the junction with Grange Road, includes plans for 45 homes. A bigger proposal, for 70 flats, was refused last year.

The latest submission is recommended for approval subject to conditions, which includes a minimum allocation of 'affordable' housing, and financial contributions towards public services in the area.

Hayes venue in 24-hour booze bid

AN APPLICATION for a 24-hour alcohol licence at a banqueting venue that has been met with resistance by police is to be decided on this week.

The owners of the Sunrise Plaza, located in Hayes Gate House in Uxbridge Road, Hayes, at the junction with Springfield Road, have applied for an around-the-clock alcohol license, and they are also seeking permission to be able to show films, sporting events, dance performances and live and recorded music at all hours in the banquet-style venue that will run over two floors and feature a roof terrace.
