Health centre lined up for expansion

PROPOSALS to expand the HESA Primary Care Centre in Hayes have come to light.

Permission has been sought by NHS Hillingdon to change the retail use of the site next to the current centre in Station Road, and floor plans for the vacant 162 square-metre property - previously the old Post Office - include a corridor linking to the existing centre, 5 consultation rooms and a waiting area and reception.

A walk-in practice, allowing patients to be seen by a GP for minor illnesses without the need for an appointment, was opened at the HESA centre in November, and this latest proposal is said to be one of a number of options for expanding healthcare in the south of the borough.

No additional parking spaces have been included in the plans, and this has been cited as a potential sticking point, but a spokesperson from NHS Hillingdon said that they were optimistic about resolving any outstanding issues.

"We remain hopeful that a solution can be found, following the Council's recent planning concerns about car parking on the site.

"The HESA Primary Care Centre is increasingly popular with local patients, many of whom prefer to receive health advice and support in their communities.

"We are currently considering a number of options for expanding local healthcare provision, which is why we are interested in developing part of the former post office site, next door to the HESA Centre."
