Broom maker appears in Yeading

Posted by Dan Coombs on Jul 27, 09 11:32 AM in What's On

A BROOM maker and basket weaver was on hand to give children a demonstration to celebrate six weeks of environmental activities.

The event was part of a 'Touching Nature' project held at Yeading Junior School, in Carlyon Road, last Saturday.

The event encouraged those who live near the Greenway and Yeading Brook to explore the green spaces near to them.

The project was held in partnership with the National Grid who are carrying out a pipeline project in the area, and an archaeologist was also available to chat to residents.

Barry Watson, Groundwork project officer, said: "Yeading meadows are a real surprise and probably only really enjoyed by a few-keen eyed dog walkers.

"If you keep your eyes and ears open around here you will come across orchids and bats, kingfishers and deer."

A WOMAN who gave up her job to pursue her dream of becoming a successful author is looking forward to seeing her first book launched on Saturday.

Taran Dhillon, 50, of Cranford Lane, Harlington, will see her dream become reality at the big launch at Earl's Court.

Mrs Dhillon's book, entitled 'Nectar Of The Grateful Victim' is loosely based on a true story of a woman's tribulations in an uncompromising and abusive marriage.

She said: "I am delighted, and my family are very happy for me, the book took four years to write.

"I had to give up my job to meet my deadlines."

The book can be ordered online, and she is already overwhelmed with the response she has received.

"I saw a review from somebody in the US and it was really positive, I am so chuffed with that, it really makes my book come to life.

"For somebody across the world to read it who doesn't know me and like it is very exciting."
